PR 1 UWA 11 def Kelmscott 3
Kelmscott is always an unknown package and today was no different. Clint started the game with a massive triple to centrefield and Josh Sac flied to right to score the opening run. The Boys showed they could hit deep fly balls that would go over most home run fences but at John Dunn they were just routine flys. Stivey did the job on the hill keeping the doggies off balance for six solid innings. The boys battled tough at the plate and scored consistantly off the Kelmscott defence. S Major showed why he is a club champion (3 for 3) and Clint battled through a corked leg to play a solid role behind the dish. In the end it was a comfortable 11-3 victory to UWA. Play of the day goes to Josh who pushed the runner wide of the base to complete the tag.
With players playing well it is becomming tough to choose a side each week. Please understand that all players are important to this club and the coaching staff are doing their best to make sure all of our sides are competitive. |

You would think that with 9 hits, 4 walks and a HPB we should have scored more than 2 runs for the day. We left far too many on base and we (again) showed poor base-running skills to hand the opposition some easy outs. But to Kelmscott's credit they turned some double plays and got out of trouble with solid baseball.
To our credit we faced the toughest pitching to date and batted with confidence. Andrew, Thom, Jacques and Tim all hit the ball hard. Defensively we were much better than last week and with an ounce of luck it could have been a closer contest.
Hooks pitched well but we knew Kelmscott would hit the ball. Jeremy and Jacques made some great outs but it was frustrating with a few of their hits and pop-ups going just out of reach. Thanks to Tim Stivey for catching at late notice and driving in our 1st run with a triple.
Play of the day was a line drive to Jacques that would have taken his head off but for the glove in front that happened to catch the ball. Blooper of the day was CJ for showing up at McGillivray Oval. (That's a package) We won't mention the on-field bloopers. We will just learn from them. |
