UWA def Mercedes
With most of the Softball girls boozing it up at Spring in the Valley (up to nearly 10 girls away for the weekend), the club decided to forfeit the A2’s and stack the A3’s and B2’s, to give the club the best chance to come away with 2 wins. Then came along Jessica Pettingill. Jessica pitched the first Softball No Hitter in UWA Club History; the Mercedes girls had no answer to Jessica pitches with many girls just watching 3 straight pitches going by. With a solid field behind her, at some stages they would just stand there and watching, as 3 came up, and 3 went back walking.
The UWA girls struggled with the bat a little, the Mercedes pitcher was sneaky quick, and took many girls by surprise. To the girls credit, they did put the ball in play when it counted, which would advance the runners, and made Mercedes make the errors and help UWA come away with a comfortable win in 7 innings.
Also welcome to the club Jessica Pettingill and Melissa Carroll, for there first game is the green and gold, and also thanks to Melissa’s friend – Joline for helping us out and playing for us. |

UWA def by Vikings
Despite losing to the Vikings, it was, I believe, a positive start to the B2 Girls' season. With bunch of fresh faces ( some playing their first game ever!) and fresh coaches to match, all the girls gave their all and performed as well as could be, considering their lack of positional training and knowledge of the game.
Although all the girls performed admirably, standouts included Kim on the mound pitching a solid game despite being sick, the artist formerly known as Anna (Kate) solid on first, and newcomer Marta showing signs of things to come with some great outs at 3rd.
All in all, with some hard training from everyone, both Mostyn and myself can see an exciting and rewarding season for all, but it's up to everyone involved to do the work to make it all come together. |
